PROJECT OVERVIEW.
High-traffic hospitality environments require furniture that balances design intent, cost efficiency, and long-term performance.
In late 2022, Beaufurn was approached to support the development of a custom seating solution for Culinary Dropout, a concept by Fox Restaurant Group. The design team identified a chair that aligned with their desired aesthetic but raised concerns about build quality, durability, and scalability at the target price point.
Beaufurn was engaged to rework the concept into a commercially viable product—engineered to perform reliably across multiple high-volume restaurant locations while remaining efficient to manufacture at scale.
DESIGN CHALLENGE.
The project centered on three primary requirements:
- Achieve a distinct design aesthetic aligned with the Culinary Dropout brand
- Meet a defined target price point suitable for multi-location rollout
- Engineer the product for durability in high-traffic hospitality environments
The challenge was to maintain visual character while refining construction, materials, and manufacturing methods to support long-term use and operational consistency.
DESIGN + DEVELOPMENT APPROACH.
Beaufurn began by developing multiple design variations that preserved the original mid-century–inspired aesthetic while refining proportions, materials, and construction methods for commercial application.
Key refinements included:
- Adjusting scale and proportions to improve comfort and stability
- Modifying construction techniques to support efficient manufacturing
- Refining upholstery details for durability and ease of maintenance
The final upholstery design features a flat seat with a clean, top-stitched border for comfort and straightforward cleaning. A subtle mini-tuft on the inside back maintains the classic character the client valued while supporting long-term performance in a hospitality setting.
ENGINEERING + PERFORMANCE TESTING.
All initial prototypes were ANSI-BIFMA tested and passed, confirming compliance with commercial performance standards.
During the original testing in the production phase, Beaufurn identified areas for further improving long-term durability. To reinforce the structure and extend service life in high-traffic environments, an additional metal stretcher was incorporated into the side chair design.
This enhancement served both structural and visual purposes. The metal foot ring echoes the mixed-material language of the chair’s metal back elements and was finished in a matching gold or bronze tone. In addition to improving structural integrity, the component was engineered to support future finish customization.
Supporting a long-term partnership, this design improvement was implemented at no additional cost to the client. To meet tight opening schedules for the first location, final components were air-freighted at no additional charge, ensuring the project remained on schedule and on budget.
RESULT.
The Lola Chair became a core seating element across Culinary Dropout locations nationwide, delivering:
- Consistent design language across multiple markets
- Proven durability in high-traffic restaurant environments
- Scalable manufacturing without compromising quality
- A refined aesthetic aligned with the brand’s identity
The result is a seating solution engineered to perform reliably over time while supporting the operational realities of large-scale hospitality environments.

August 26, 2022Commercial spaces are typically designed with a single purpose in mind – to create an area that is functional and appealing to the greatest number of people. But there’s no reason why designed spaces can’t be personalized to make them more distinct to their business or location. This mix-and-match furniture set of high-backed chairs and corner modules and low-backed sofa combinations can be grouped and arranged in any number of combinations to create intimate corner stations or semi-private mid-room conversation hubs.
THE LOOK: ORGANIC AND BOUNDLESS
With a low, open silhouette and laid-back style, the Bean Lounge Chair has a soft, obtuse organic shape that suggests easy relaxation and informal lounging. It comes in multiple color options, ranging from the understated to the dramatic, to create a personalized visual statement about its surroundings.
THE LOOK: UPRIGHT AND ENCLOSING
Brent High Back Lounge Seating
The Brent High Back Lounge features a high backstop silhouette with enclosing wing arms, suggesting the intimacy of booth seating with less harsh rigidity. Its tall back wall will provide support as an anchoring central seating feature for surrounding chairs or can be staged in tandem with other Brent High Back Lounges to create a private enclave. Upholstered in vibrant purple with fanciful horizontal stripes in a gradient of unexpected color.
THE LOOK: LOW-SLUNG MODULAR BLOCKS
The IBIZA line offers a futuristic take on area seating, with low-backed angular geometric shapes floating atop slender metal footing. Pale-colored, light, and airy, its combination of versatile central and end pieces can be assembled to evoke any number of personalized conversational seating areas… without losing any of its inherent style.
The MIAMI collection offers equally complementary furniture pieces ideal for corner placement or as a pit group array, though rounder and more organic in shape. This seating choice can be further personalized through the selection of any of several soft pale colors (or in basic black, should one prefer a darker or more formal tone).
THE LOOK: LOW AND SHARPLY ANGULAR
The SERENE collection of area seating options is low-slung and more sharply chiseled in style, accompanied by wide square side tables or a long sleek coffee table option. This perfectly lends itself to creating open, low-backed conversational islands. Easily personalized through the stylistic combination of different fabric colors accented by a choice of finished metal.
THE LOOK: BOLD PATTERNED WEDGES WITH A CURVY SIDE OPTION
The MODA collection of seating modules offers a high-concept design that combines straight structural angles with visually striking patterned fabric choices to create an exotic, angled-wedge feel.

Luna – Minimal, practical, and comfortable, the Luna collection is both versatile and functional with all-purpose stack chairs. Lightweight construction, this versatile chair is constructed with a solid steel frame and technopolymer shell available in bright, modern colors, Luna achieves maximum stability in use and is easy to assemble. Perfectly created for use in conference rooms, waiting areas, meetings, or public spaces, Luna is available with armrests, linking mechanisms, and an anti-panic writing tablet.
Aaron Outdoor Collection – The Aaron Outdoor collection adds a unique and contemporary aesthetic to outdoor spaces. This modern, Adirondack-inspired outdoor furniture is built from ultra-durable high-density polyethylene (HDPE), in part from recycled materials.
The collection is made up of armchair, side chair and table, with exciting additions to the collection still to come. Made of durable HDPE, the product is stabilized to withstand the harshest outdoor conditions and can remain outside year-round. The Aaron collection will not rust, delaminate, or rot when exposed to UV, humidity, or water. The HDPE polymer never needs painting or refinishing, works like wood, and is easy to maintain.

Abbey – Enhanced by gracefully slanted arms, the Abbey chair features a natural cane back and solid Beech frame, which gives it a sense of lightness and sophistication. With a curved seatback, the Abbey is a contemporary update that balances mid-century charm with contemporary style for a look that complements any setting.
